Cambridge residents gathered to give feedback on MIT’s plans for the Volpe Center site at a meeting Thursday evening.

Rather than a typical public meeting, where organizers and architects stand in front of a room flipping through slides of design mock-ups before opening the floor to questions, the June 29 gathering featured no formal presentation. Instead, community members entered a room reminiscent of a science fair crossed with a benefit dinner.
